We see them often enough - Gold Alerts - issued for a special class of the missing: the elderly, the disabled, and those at risk for suicide. Gold Alerts work like Amber Alerts - they cause us to be more aware of the people around us as we go about our day. If the alert works, someone thinks they may have seen the missing person and calls the police. That tip may be the tip that brings a family member home.
We hope it's never you or yours - because this Gold Alert hits especially close to home - the uncle of our son's friend. If you've seen Dale or think you might have seen Dale sometime since December 19th, please call it in to the police. Please help us bring Dale back to his family.

Castle County police are asking the public’s help in locating a Glasgow
man who was heard from a week ago when he texted his family he was
“headed to the beach.”
Dale Shortlidge, 42, who lives in the 100 block of Bartley Drive in the Pleasant Valley Estates community, was reported missing on Wednesday, said Cpl. Jacob Andrews.
Family members told police that they received a text from him on Dec. 18 indicating he was going to the beach, but he had no known access to a vehicle, Andrews said.
Officers checked surrounding areas and places that Shortlidge was known to frequent, but could not locate him.
Andrews said his medical status is such that there is real concern for his welfare.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at (302) 573-2800 or visit the website at: www.nccpd.com. Tips can also be phoned into Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.

While we support freedom of speech, we do feel it's important to reiterate the intention of this post: 1) To highlight the importance of Gold Alerts, issued when the elderly, disabled, or suicidal are missing, 2) To support the family seeking to find and help their troubled love one, 3) to help generate tips that may lead to the missing's return. As such, the tips posted here will be forwarded to the police.
We also wish to remind our readers that despite Mr. Shortlidge's past, his FAMILY is trying to find him. And while he has made terrible mistakes, he is still loved, especially by his very young nieces, whom we know personally. We are saddened that during the most generous of seasons, so many are disparaging this man, compounding the existing heartbreak. You may not like Dale Shortlidge, but please have compassion. It could one day be your family.
To anonymous in Florida: In whatever manner Mr. Shortlidge left Florida, it appears to have been done legally. We have been unable to locate any open warrants in your state. Additionally, Dale is now believed to be in Nevada although he has not yet been found.

Thank you.
im sorry dont waste you time and resource on a sorry excuse of a humon being good ridence losser
I have know Dale for years (over 25 years) and I sincerely hope that his family find him and that he is safe. I live in Florida also and want to respond to the ridiculous posts above. He never laid a hand on me. He is a good human being who loves his family and his son. People make mistakes and people go through tough times. The fact that his family is looking for him and you post such nasty things is truly sad. Poor you! You may have pressed charges and a judge may believe you but only he and you know what actually happened.
Oh and his warrant is very much active, Id know. I will agree with one thing...it is sad. All of it. His son deserves better, his family deserves better, the people whose lives he comes into deserve better. Does he have potential, YES. Hes one of the smartest people I have ever met, but again hes a crack addict...its ruining him. Ive seen the man on all 4's sifting through the carpet for drugs. Picking up little pieces of any and everything that resembles a rock. He needs to fall flat on his face and pick up his own pieces for once, or it will never change. So yes, I agree, it is sad, because every ounce of him is sad.
