What's happening to that Pesky AYP ?

Yes, there are likely a million answers to this question.  But, I'm only looking for the right one!

If you've visited the Delaware Department of Education website recently, you might have noticed a little change...

ALL AYP RANKINGS FROM SCHOOL PROFILES HAVE BEEN REMOVED!

Go Here:  http://profiles.doe.k12.de.us/SchoolProfiles/State/Default.aspx

Under the ABOUT Tab, beneath Telephone and Web, is customarily a little box with stars and note about what the stars mean - Academic Progress, Academic Watch, Superior, etc.

Well, that happy little box has been scrubbed from all pages in the SCHOOL PROFILES file.  Note that at the top of the page, the site was last updated "Summer 2011."

So, if withholding AYP rankings for the last school year wasn't bad enough, now the state has removed all pre-existing AYP data.

It's baffling, I know.  And I'm sure they'll give us a sensible explanation.

In the mean time, I am forced to assume that all schools in Delaware are simply SUPERIOR!

This is the strange but true category add: OUTRAGEOUS.

It was my understanding state law requires this information to be included in the school profiles.

Jack, that's a very good question! Does state allow require it? Does NCLB require it? Is it a federal mandate?

Are you up for tracking that down?

Don't get you panties in a bunch. Talk to anyone who works in a school and they will tell you that all applications that run through the state server are down this weekend and should be up by the end of the day on Monday. eSchool is not working (for schedules and grades), some email is not working, and all of the applications that DOE runs are not working. This includes the school profiles. All of these applications are being upgraded to a new, more secure system. School employees are all getting new passwords and must log on through the DOE site as opposed to whatever site their district (or charter school) may have provided. In addition, the school ratings on the school profiles are being updated to the information for the current scores from the 2010-2011 school year. That information is scheduled for release on Friday. I am sure it will be on the school profiles and they will be back up on Friday. If you desperately need to find out what a school was rated last year during the coming week, any school with an ounce of professionalism will have hard copies of the profile available at the school. If not, you can find them on hundreds of online sources such as GreatSchools.

All of that being said, it sounds like your issue is that the school profiles are not archived from year to year. I love the idea. I agree that they should be. But I will not go off half-cocked about contacting the Feds. Maybe they will be archived when the new system is up and running.

Anonymous,

check my response via my latest post.

Archives - would be great. When the profiles were complete, you could kick more info and see the previous years score as well.
