HOUSE BILL NO. 237 AN ACT TO AMEND TITLE 14 OF THE DELAWARE CODE RELATING TO REPORTING SCHOOOL CRIMES.
“This bill is a result of the work of the School Discipline Task Force. The bill simplifies the mandatory report requirements for schools, ensuring that the most serious offenses shall be reported to law enforcement while giving schools discretion to handle minor offenses without mandatory reporting. The bill also requires that all relevant special education and disciplinary records for students with disabilities, as defined under federal law, be sent to law enforcement to allow for informed charging decisions.”

I am still waiting for response to what is minor offenses? Parents need to know when it comes to crossing physical boundaries they go to the police not the school. No disrespect to school leaders but too much is swept under the rug.

This legislation isn't talking about chewing gum in class or talking in class. Its about "crimes" and I feel all crimes should be reported for the sake of the record. Allowing schools fusibility in interpreting what crimes of minor without guidelines is dangerous and undermines school safety.

I feel bad for this kid and I hope Cecil school district steps-up and require both parent and bully to seek family counseling before returning to school.
