The Pencader Board of Directors Must Act NOW!

Deceived.

This morning's edition of the News Journal greeted readers with an above-the-fold story about diploma mills with the Pencader Charter School Leader front and center.

A year ago, I put my reputation behind Pencader and joined with other Christina constituents to implore DOE give the school a second chance to continue to offer their commendable education to high school students despite the fiscal crisis that enveloped the school.  DOE conceded, Pencader's bricks and mortar filled with hopes and dreams - many of those dreams crushed during a very trying and at times painful 2011-12 school year. After reading this morning's story for a third, fourth, and fifth time, I find myself feeling deeply deceived.

This morning, I am publicly requesting that the Pencader Board of Directors convene an emergency meeting and remove the school leader.  While Delaware's charter school leaders are not required by code, law, or regulation to hold a Ph.D., purporting to have one is gross misrepresentation and malfeasance.  It is more than a bad example, it is an insult to true educators who have earned their degrees from accredited educational institutions!  The Pencader Board must be accountable to their students, parents, employees, constituents, and tax payers. They cannot permit a school leader to continue to stretch the truth - this is not the example that should be set for our children who continue to struggle to hit a moving target and achieve proficiency.

If the Board of Directors fails to act quickly, I am calling on the Delaware Department of Education as the school's authorizer to intervene immediately. Anything less is simply not acceptable! Dan Cruce, John Carwell, Sec. of Education Murphy - the tax payers need to hear from you!

Elizabeth...Although it is very sad, I was happy to read your post. I cringed last year when I saw you strongly supporting the school's leader when I knew of the deception. Many of us tried unsuccessfully to get people to listen to what was going on there. We felt like we were in a nightmare screaming for help and nobody was listening. Finally, the leader's deception is out in the open. Hopefully action will finally be taken to put an honest person in place as the school's leader. The house needs to be cleaned as there are a small number of Ann's groupies that will try to continue to cover for her. The groupies are a small grup found throughout the school as administrators, teachers, PTO president, and a few parents and students.

I think the answer to your question about "It's midnight, do you know where your Ph.D. is?" might be...."Martha has it."

Yes, Anonymous is absolutely right here. Get out all the Kool-Aid drinkers. I count seven....

Well, I figure the list of folks who are feeling duped today is growing by the minute.

This isn't a trust fracture - it's trust desolation.

Nothing will happen at Pencader unless the parents get in there and change it.

She counts on 2 things: fear and inaction.

the track record shows she is likely right.

I watched the video. She couldn't even say what her advisor's name was or what his degree was in. Yet, through the who interview she felt that she deserved/earned the degree from the experiences she had in life. Well, if that were the case everyone would have a Ph.D. This is an insult to the whole educational system. She either needs to step down or be fired. What kind of example is she setting?? A very poor one, if you need an answer.

The more I read about this, the more furious I get.

I can't believe that there are still some students & a couple parents (PTO president is one) that think it is o.k. They are saying it was a little mistake that should be overlooked. Are they crazy? Not much going on in their noggins if they think Lewis was not deliberately trying to deceive everyone & that this is the only thing she is being deceptive about. The Lewises seem to think they are above everyone else & the rules that apply to everyone else don't apply to them.

I wish I could stand up on a chair in a public square somewhere and call for Lewis' removal. What she has done is totally beyond the pale, and she needs to go. Unfortunately I cannot put my neck out there right now, but if someone starts a petition to remove her, or something like that, I will sign it.
