Grand Total - a hair over $55,000 in two months. I don't know what Pencader budgeted for in the way of legal fees; however, I am concerned that $55,000 is excessive for a small school and as such what impact will this have on the classrooms?

YIPES!!!! Those charges are all for the current fiscal year! The budget line (#55020) for the current school year (7/1/12-6/30/13) was (and I have seen no indication that the Board has amended) $5700.00...Folks, that's a ONE THOUSAND PERCENT OVER-RUN!!! and the year is young......I knew I should have been a lawyer!
another astounding note, as you point out, in a small school, is that this is sixteen bills from Aug. 1-Sept. 28 totaling $55,574.66. Large chunk of change...Look at it this way, if every student is worth $9,000+ in state and local money, then it took the money designated for 6+ students, so far!! More than astounding....possibly 1.5 teachers with less than 5 years experience, including OECs, and a ton of classroom supplies!! And it's still mid-October!!
