Reports coming out of last night's Pencader board meeting indicate that board member, Steve Quimby, a teacher rep, resigned his board position and was subsequently appointed Interim School Leader.
This action was not noticed on the Agenda for the September 27, 2012 meeting, nor was the agenda ammended prior to the meeting to provide notice to the public that the board would be voting on a new or interim school leader.
Was the inadequate posting another communication failure or was this an intentional move to deny the public access to important school business? Will the motion even show up in the minutes - given the board admission to the AG that they failed to keep adequate minutes of previous meetings?
The board also accepted two resignations last night - Quimby and Dr. Jones, bringing the membership count to five. With five, three makes a quorum. Wonder if those frequent gatherings at the local bar will come to an end now?
Also, noteworthy, DOE's John Carwell was absent from the meeting. Charter Junket to Texas, maybe?

Hmmm, now does this mean that Steve Quimby resigns his teacher responsibilities at the same time? School Leader is a full time task. But on to the question of what it will take for this board to be transparent? I would say it needs a new board! Transplant to be transparent!
A little bird singing about the Pencader Board meeting last night said that Judi Kennedy, VP (Pretender to the Throne?) said that the "FOIA is all resolved and not an issue at all." I guess she didn't read Page 3 of the FOIA ruling that said, "We are requesting that the board promptly address these issues* ad provide us with copies of all corrected minutes as and when they are posted to Pencader Charter's official website." *That would be all meeting minutes from March, 2012 forward. Doesn't sound to me like it's "resolved and not an issue at all." Nope....
And I'd say they're at it again....You certainly can amend an agenda at the opening of a meeting, but you CANNOT amend it to insert action that will be voted on at that meeting. And of course, you cannot simply add something to the meeting as you go along through the meeting, which sounds like what happened. Hmmmmm, little birdie got this one right!
Nothing seems to ever be posted on the website anymore....amazing! Not even a letter from the Board informing the "Pencader Family" that there is a change of leadership at the school. Hmmmm.....
This should be enough to close this school.
I'm back to being at a loss. I wonder if there's even any point to filing again? They clearly do not care about the public's right to freedom of information. Utter loss. On so many levels.
That points directly to an incompetent board. Period.
As a Pencader Alumni, I can say that if there is one person that can turn the school around without further secrets and corruption, Mr. Quimby is the man for the job. Provided his background in history and business this is Pencader's last hope!

I can only hope that you are correct. It's hard for any tax payer who is not directly connected to Pencader to have faith in the school these days. While it's encouraging that you found Mr. Quimby to be a great teacher, leading a school without having any leadership degrees specific to education severely handicaps him. He's taken on a tough job, for that he deserves tremendous respect, but knowing whether or not he has the management skills is something else entirely. All any of us can do is Wait and See. And hope for the best.
